Chief Executive Officer, Community Housing Partnership
Gail Gilman is CEO of Community Housing Partnership, an award-winning San Francisco nonprofit dedicated to helping 1,500 homeless individuals and families each year secure housing and become self-sufficient. Community Housing Partnership empowers formerly homeless individuals and families to rebuild their lives by providing high-quality, affordable housing and comprehensive, onsite services including case management; healthcare; employment; and youth and civic engagement programs.
Gail grew up in affordable housing in New York City and says, “As I think back on that time, I cannot imagine where I would be today if it were not for this precious public resource.” Gail has dedicated her career to developing proven, cost-effective models of support for homeless individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency. As a respected policy leader, Commissioner for the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection, and Governor-appointed member of California’s Homeless Coordinating and Financing Council, Gail has led Community Housing Partnership to become a national model for housing equity. The organization is currently engaged in its five-year strategic plan to add 300 additional units onto the 1,100 it already owns or operates. A sabbatical will allow Gail to bolster her team’s executive leadership and come back ready to realize an ambitious vision. While on sabbatical, she plans to spend time outdoors, practice mindfulness, and read.
Gail says “I want to empower our most significant asset – our team of 300 – to grow their leadership. As the face of homelessness has changed to include more families and older adults, with increasing and visible community impact, I look forward to returning refreshed and ready to advance more proven solutions for our communities.”
